Can I bring my kids?
To allow all wedding guests, including parents, a night of relaxation and uninhibited revelry, we respectfully ask that no children attend the wedding.
However, there are trusted babysitters available through the villa if you want to bring your children for vacation. We will get you in touch with the villa concierge to set this up. Additionally, there will be a welcome event on Monday evening which your kids are invited to attend.
Is the wedding indoors or outdoors?
The wedding ceremony is open air, but there are strategically placed ceiling fans.
Is the villa equipped with air-conditioning?
For when the ocean breeze and fans aren't enough, air conditioning is provided in all guest rooms and indoor social areas of the villa.
Do I need to take malaria pills?
No, malaria is not present in this area. However, using mosquito repellent is highly recommended.
Can I drink the water in Costa Rica?
Yes, tap water is safe to drink throughout Costa Rica.
Do they accept US dollars?
US currency is widely accepted, but smaller denominations are preferred in many places due to issues with counterfeit bills.
Is there a place to change traveler’s checks?
No, banks in Manuel Antonio do not accept traveler’s checks.
Do I tip at restaurants?
A 10% service tax is typically included in your bill, but it's customary to leave an additional 10% for good service.
What is the sales tax in CR?
The sales tax in Costa Rica is 13%.
​​Do I need a car in Manuel Antonio?
No, it's recommended to avoid driving due to narrow roads and limited parking. Taxis and buses are readily available.
How much does a taxi/bus cost from Quepos to Manuel Antonio?

I don’t speak Spanish; how will I get around?
English is widely spoken in tourist areas, and locals can usually assist if needed.

Do I have to carry my passport with me?
It's best to carry a photocopy and keep the original in a safe place. You'll only need it for specific situations like airport travel and currency exchange.
Do they accept Mastercard or American Express credit cards?
Mastercard is widely accepted, but American Express is less common. Visa is accepted everywhere.
​Is Costa Rica safe?
Costa Rica is like all places in the world, there is petty theft and crime. If you use common sense, you should be fine. 100% of the time: keep an eye on your bags, leave valuables in the hotel room or safe, don’t leave bags in cars unattended, don’t expose large amounts of cash in public, and keep your room and car locked. Costa Rica is a very casual country and there is no need to bring expensive jewelry, handbags, or clothing. Passports and credit cards are not needed on the beach!
Can I buy food they are selling in the streets?
I can’t give you a yes or no answer. Here in Manuel Antonio, I would buy from the people on the beach. Someplace on the street where there are lots of cars going by, probably not. Costa Ricans are very clean people, but you have to take an educated guess.
​​What about eating in sodas (little hole-in-the-wall restaurants)?
Sodas offer good and affordable meals, but cash payment is usually required.
What should I definitely try to drink?
We have delicious fruit drinks called “batidos” here. They are non-alcoholic and made fresh daily. Some favorites are guanabana, tamarindo, cas, and mora. The guanabana and mora should be made “en leche” which means in milk. For those of you who drink, the local liquor is guaro. It is made from sugar cane and best mixed with Fresca soda and lime. The most famous and widely drank Costa Rican beer is Imperial. Wine and imported liquors are somewhat expensive to drink here. Of course, you must experience the Costa Rican coffee.
What are the local dishes?
Typical Costa Rican food is simple, yet good and fresh. Here are a few suggestions: Gallo pinto for breakfast, which is rice and beans with some veggies, cilantro, and a bit of Costa Rican Lisano Sauce. Casado for lunch or dinner, this is the typical plated meal that comes with your choice of meat, white rice, beans, salad and platanos (sautéed plantain bananas.) Ceviche, guacamole, and black bean dip for appetizers. Ceviche is a lime juice cured fish or shrimp cocktail. All are served with tortilla chips or crackers. Helado anytime, ice cream in amazing tropical flavors. Fish/Seafood is usually freshly caught that morning and fantastic. In Manuel Antonio there are many international and fine dining options as well.
Is it safe to swim in the ocean?
Swimming is generally safe but be mindful of strong currents and swim with caution.
What should I bring with me?
Essentials include sunscreen, sunglasses, bug spray, and toiletries. Tampons can be hard to find and expensive.
What is there to DO in Manuel Antonio?
There are enough tours to keep you busy for the entire week. These include: Manuel Antonio National Park, white water rafting, canopy tours, mangrove tours, spas, scuba diving, deep-sea fishing, atv rentals, jet ski rentals, butterfly gardens, snorkeling, yoga, surfing, football games or you can relax on the beach or at the pool. There are a couple of sports bars in town, night clubs on the weekends, and shopping.
